Fall is here, and 2024 is coming to a close. Many of our customers have completed renovations this year, and some of their projects used some of this year’s most current design trends.
It won’t be long until the top colours of 2025 are decided by the “powers that be” in paint, but we still wanted to highlight the 2024 paint colours of the year.

Sherwin-Williams calls Upward SW 6239 a “denim blue with gray undertones” leaving the viewer “dreamily adrift in the stratosphere.” This light neutral shade pairs well with a cool pastel, white furnishings, and coastal or Nordic design styles.
Sue Wadden, the Director of Color Marketing at Sherwin-Williams shared the inspiration that went into selecting this colour, and how it fits into the trend of blues and greens defining the current decade in this blog post.
“Used as an accent or all over, in classic coastal or casual Nordic styles, the airy, misty-hued beauty dwells where the fairest-weather blue finds just a hint of silver lining. Additionally, the commercial appeal of pale blue hues resonates widely, manifesting in furniture, lighting, textiles, and accessories in ranges that seamlessly blend aesthetics and functionality. Violet and blue come together in a mid-tone that Benjamin Moore describes as “elevated and sumptuous” with a “cosmic vibe that encourages adventure.” The Blue Nova profile page includes a neat feature showing the shade in different light, including morning, afternoon, and night.

Benjamin Moore doesn’t stop with its colour of the year selection. The brand released a full colour trends 2024 palette featuring ten inspired shades. Watch the linked promo video for these colours below.
This versatile “soft black” elevates your interior environment with a sense of bold modern elegance that pairs well with neutral furnishings, accentuating any existing details. In an interview with Architectural Digest, Behr vice president of color and creative services Erika Woelfel says that “people are interested in seeing these deeper, darker colors. They create a sense of comfort in their homes.”
Beyond its use for interior home paint jobs, Behr endorses Cracked Pepper for its suitability in workplace and hospitality spaces.
This shade is one of fifteen hues chosen for the Behr 2024 Colour Trends Palette, which features Mountain Olive, Laguna Blue, and many more. To find these colours, shop at the Home Depot, Behr’s exclusive retailer.
For anyone looking for further inspiration, there are over a dozen paint and design companies who released a colour of the year for 2024.
Vancouver-based Cloverdale Paint offers a shade similar to Sherwin Williams with their Beacon Fog, which they call a “subtle and sophisticated hue, perfect for elevating your space.”
Glidden by PPG released their Limitless shade, a honey beige hue that features “the stamina of a primary colour with the versatility of a neutral.”
HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams shows off the liveliest hue from this list, the tangerine-tinted Persimmon which pulls from a terra cotta, earthy base for a great statement in your living room or kitchen.
