It’s a particularly exciting time of year in the painting business. Sure, the changing of the seasons means that the peak outdoor painting time is coming to a close, but fall also signifies that paint companies release their colours of the year.
This is a great opportunity to get inspired for your next interior painting project, with a wide range of colours and palettes developed by some of the sharpest minds in the colour game.
As an interior painting company with over 30 years of experience, we try to stay ahead of the curve. Read our blog post on 2024’s year’s colours of the year for even more inspiration, and keep an eye on our Instagram account to see some of these colours used in our recent projects.
Sherwin-Williams broke the mould this year by introducing their inaugural 2025 Colour Capsule of the Year, a spotlight of nine shades meant to capture the world of colour from classic to cutting edge. This assortment was a special treat for the brand’s 15th Colour of the Year announcement.
Here’s what Director of Color Marketing Sue Wadden had to say about the collection.
“Our Color Capsule of the Year can be curated to stand out with any style. We wanted a modern, fresh take on color, with a balanced and usable assortment of shades.”
The capsule includes a wide range, like four shades from its designer collection of recurring favourites. Read more about the inspiration behind this palette on the Sherwin-Williams blog.

Behr makes a statement with Rumors, its deep ruby red bringing drama and elegance inside the home. In the brand’s announcement article, the colour is lauded for its ability to “fill personal space with an inviting warmth”, pairing well with metallic finishes in gold or oil-rubbed bronze.
Architectural Digest mentions how purples and reds like Rumors can be polarizing for consumers, yet a recent customer survey by Behr showed that over 75% of respondents would consider painting a room or wall a shade of red.
Behr vice president of color and creative services Erika Woelfel notes that recent colours of the year Cracked Pepper and Blank Canvas pair well with Rumors, and as such are both named on Behr’s 2025 Trends Palette.
A recent article from the Spruce lists ten paint companies that have released their colour of the year so far.
Vancouver-based Cloverdale Paint has yet to release their colour of the year for 2025, but we will be keeping a close eye on their website and Facebook page for the big news.
